Fixing a puncture on a bike is a fairly simple process, and knowing that you can do this can contribute to the sense of freedom and independence that we all love our bikes for. Developing the confidence to fix your own bike takes a little bit of instruction and a lot of practise. You can find both at the Active Cycle Coaching Women-Only Puncture Repair Workshops in Edinburgh.

What To Expect

These workshops are women-only and run by coach and bike mechanic, Diana Farrell. With a maximum class size of six, everyone will get the attention they need to develop their skills and confidence.

Working together at a women only puncture repair workshopIn a relaxed and supportive environment, you will work on your own bike to learn:

  • How to remove and replace your front and back wheels,
  • How to change an inner tube,
  • How to fix a punctured inner tube.

In addition, you will understand:

  • What type of brakes your bike has and how you might have to adjust them to remove your wheels,
  • How to deal with your chain when removing and replacing your rear wheel,
  • What to take with you on a ride to make sure you are prepared, should you get a puncture.

Tea, coffee and biscuits will be available at the course. Please advise if you have any allergies.

What To Bring

If possible you should bring your own bike to the course. This will allow you to understand your own set up as there are slight differences between different bikes. If you are unable to bring your own bike, please email activecyclecoaching@gmail.com and I will arrange for a bike you can work on.

To enable you to work effectively, and as we are working indoors, please ensure that your bike is reasonably clean. As the workshop will only cover puncture repair and no other repairs will be undertaken during the evening, your bike should be in good general working order.

If you have your own tools, you might want to bring them with you. However, tools will be available for you to use.

Bike mechanics can be messy – it is probably not advisable to wear your best clothes!

The Venue

The workshop is held in the Gyle Hall of St Thomas’s Church on Glasgow Road, Edinburgh. The hall is to the rear of the church and is accessed from the Gyle Park carpark.

If arriving by car, to access the carpark, turn left off Glasgow Road just after the church when travelling west (there is no right turn into this road from Glasgow Road). The road is signposted for David Lloyd Gym. The car park is immediately on the left after turning. Please note that the car park has a height restriction barrier – do not use this car park if you are carrying your bike on the roof!

The course cost is non-refundable.

In the unlikely event of insufficient bookings, Active Cycle Coaching may have to cancel the session. Should this happen, 48 hours notice will be given to all participants and full refunds will be issued.

If extreme weather causes the session to be cancelled, it will be rescheduled or refunded.
