Description

Confident cornering on a road bike is about riding fast around corners, alone or in a group, feeling relaxed and in control. If you find yourself braking, feeling tense, or getting dropped by a group when the corners are tight, then this is the course for you! Over the three weeks you will learn tricks and techniques, gradually increasing your speed as you progress and building to cornering at speed, in a group.

Skills Covered:

  • Cornering at speed on a road bikeHow to steer (and how not to steer!).
  • Controlling your speed for corners.
  • Body position.
  • Taking the correct line.
  • Leading and following around corners.
  • Cornering in a bunch.
  • Cornering at speed.

Session Structure

Confident Cornering is run as a series of three 90 minute sessions. Each session builds on the previous one and attending the full course is advised, however riders may choose to attend as many of the sessions as they like.

There will be a maximum of eighteen riders per session. With exclusive use of ‘The Wiggle’ loop we will have a range of shallow and tight corners to practise on.

Each session will consist of a number of structured exercises. There will be discussions between exercises and some time off the bikes, but I aim for riders to spend the vast majority of the session on their bikes. Whole group and individual feedback will be given to participants.

Who Are The Sessions For?

Confident Cornering is suitable for riders who want to improve their cornering, either individually or in a group. You may be a club rider, a sportive rider or a road or criterium racer or you may just want to improve your own bike handling skills. The sessions are suitable for road bikes only (no tri-bars please).
